Liverpool are out of three competitions, but they can still win the Premier League in Arne Slot’s first season at the club, which should be no mean feat.

The Reds lost 2-1 against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday. They were thoroughly outplayed and outfoxed.

Slot didn’t feel the need to add players to the squad last summer, but the situation is likely to change in a few months.

Liverpool need fresh players at the club, and Slot needs to offload some of the players from the current set-up to make room for new additions.

Bolstering the forward department will be a priority for the Reds. Darwin Nunez has misfired, and he could be off to Saudi Pro League next summer.

Liverpool should also consider selling Diogo Jota.

The 28-year-old has been really poor this season. He has scored eight goals in all competitions but has not found the net in his last ten appearances.

Against Newcastle, he made only ten passes, with just 40% passing accuracy. He took only 16 touches during the game and lost possession seven times.

The performance was nowhere near any acceptable level. It’s awful.

He has been well below par in recent months, and his loss of form should force Slot to sell him next summer.

Jota has a contract at Anfield until 2027, and Liverpool should receive more than £41 million they paid for him.

According to Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are likely to try their luck to sign Jota in the summer, and Liverpool should be open to offers.

He has been a fantastic servant for the club, making over 170 appearances, and will possibly win his first Premier League title with Liverpool this season.

His injury record is a big concern. Jota can be a devastating forward when he is on a purple patch, but it appears that he could be on the decline from here on.

It’s the right time for Liverpool to cash in on him and invest the money elsewhere.
