The forward has two years left on his current deal

Luis Diaz has revealed talks over a Liverpool contract renewal are imminent after declaring his desire to stay at the club.

Signed from Porto for an initial fee of £37.5 million in January 2022, Diaz quickly became a fan-favourite on Merseyside but was linked with an exit last summer amid reported interest from Barcelona.

Ultimately the Colombia international stayed put and, in return, has played a significant role in Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph.

His 17 goals across all competitions means it is his most productive campaign to date for the Reds and his 13 in the league is a total only bettered by Mohamed Salah (28) in the entire squad.

Diaz has cemented himself as a key player under Arne Slot this season. In total, he has made 48 appearances so far as his ability to play out wide or down the middle has worked in his favour.

Clearly enjoying his time at Anfield, the 28-year-old is keen to extend his stay.

However, whilst Diaz has revealed talks over a contract renewal are scheduled, he admits his future is reliant on the club’s plans.

Speaking to Telemundo, he said: “Yes, happy. From the first day I arrived, I’ve always been happy, calm, enjoying the football played at this great team.

“We’ll be talking about it, we’ll talk about it (about the renewal). For me, I would stay however many years it takes, it also depends on the club, everything.

"These are details that are sorted out separately. Very calm, I’m happy and enjoying the Premier League.”
