Liverpool vs Newcastle – Predicted lineup and team news

Liverpool take on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley this afternoon.
The first silverware of the season will be decided in the capital, as Arne Slot looks to win his first trophy with the Reds.
Liverpool’s focus returns to domestic competitions, following their exit from the Champions League to Paris Saint-Germain. A shootout defeat ended hopes of European success, but the Merseysiders are still well positioned for a memorable campaign.
Liverpool won the League Cup last season and are bidding for a record-extending 11th title. Newcastle, in contrast, have not won a major domestic trophy in 70 years. The Magpies have never won the League Cup, though finished as runners-up in 1976 and 2023.
Arne Slot will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold, who limped out of the midweek defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Alexander-Arnold joins fellow defenders Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley on the sidelines, which could lead to a start at right-back for Jarell Quansah.
Ibrahima Konate is expected to be passed fit in better news for the Reds. Tyler Morton is the only other absentee for Slot’s side this afternoon. The midfielder is out with a shoulder issue.
Cody Gakpo, who has five goals in five EFL Cup games this season, could make his first start since last month’s Merseyside Derby.
Liverpool predicted XI: Alisson; Quansah, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Diaz, Gakpo.
Liverpool take on Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final on Sundy 16th March 2025. Kick-off at Wembley is 16:30 GMT.
The Carabao Cup final will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and ITV in the UK.
