Liverpool were stunned by Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.
The Reds lost 2-1 against Eddie Howe’s determined Newcastle United side who won thanks to goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.
It was the first final for Liverpool manager Arne Slot but he had no answer to Newcastle’s tactics at Wembley.
Federico Chiesa scored the only goal for the Merseyside club but it proved to be a consolation goal for the Premier League leaders.
Mohamed Salah, along with other Liverpool attackers like Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, was anonymous and offered no threat to the Newcastle defense.
Former Liverpool defender and football pundit Jamie Carragher urged the Reds to sign two attacking players after their surprise defeat against Newcastle in the cup final.
‘It was probably one of the worst performances I’ve seen from Liverpool in a cup final,’ Carragher told Sky Sports, as reported by Metro.
‘But they’ve given so much this season and they’ve lost one league game. It’s hard to be too critical but it has shined a light on where Liverpool need to improve.
‘The lack of pace in attack is glaring. I feel sorry for Mohamed Salah, he was kept quiet by PSG and he wasn’t great today but he doesn’t get help from the other attackers.
‘The other attackers are good players but they’re not great. They need to go and buy two attackers this summer to play alongside Salah.

Carragher is absolutely spot on with his analysis about the Liverpool squad.
If Salah does not score a goal, it is hard to imagine which other attacker would inspire the team and bail them out.
The Egyptian has been their best player this season but he is bound to have some off days, however, he chose the worst time to have an off day for his team.
It is clear from Liverpool’s performance that they need new attackers in the side and someone who can share the burden of scoring the goals with Salah.
