Altay Bayindir has said the Manchester United squad ‘love’ new head coach Ruben Amorim after dumping Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

Bayindir was the hero for Manchester United as the holders progressed into round four with a penalty shootout win at the Emirates. The Turkey international saved spot-kicks in normal time and the shootout in a thrilling contest in North London.

United took the lead against the run of play when Bruno Fernandes slammed in on the counter-attack, but the game swung back in Arsenal’s favour just after the hour.

Diogo Dalot was sent off for a late challenge on 61 minutes and Arsenal levelled within two minutes of the dismissal, when Gabriel fired through a crowded penalty area to score.

Bayindir, who had been at fault for Arsenal’s equaliser, atoned for his error when he saved Martin Odegaard’s penalty after Harry Maguire was controversially penalised for a foul on Kai Havertz.

United’s 10 men battled brilliantly through the added period and Bayindir made a superb stop from Declan Rice’s header. The 26-year-old was then the difference in the shootout, denying Kai Havertz as the Red Devils won 5-3 on penalties.

After being handed a rare start, Bayindir discussed the importance of always being ready and lavished praise on new head coach Ruben Amorim. The club’s resilient defensive performance followed a spirited showing to draw at Liverpool last weekend.

“I just help my team. I am working everyday. I am patient. I just want to help this great team,” Bayindir said speaking to the BBC.

“I want to make everyone happy for this great club. I’m working here everyday.”

“If you are not playing it doesn’t matter. You have to be ready every minute, every second, if you are a Man Utd player you have to be ready always.”

“[Ruben Amorim] is talking with us everyday and he wants to help us. We love him and he’s always trying to do his best. He has a very good relationship with the players and we are trusting him, he is trusting us. We are fighting together.”
