Manchester United secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
The match lacked intensity, with both sides struggling to find an attacking edge.
United supporters, who traveled to Craven Cottage, voiced chants of “attack” in hopes of inspiring their players to push forward.
A long-range effort from Lisandro Martinez, aided by a wicked deflection, broke the deadlock in the 78th minute.
Fulham came close to finding an equaliser, but a sensational clearance from Toby Collyer sealed the victory for the Red Devils.
Let’s get into player ratings.
Andre Onana – 6/10
Onana will owe Collyer for his clearance off the line, as the goalkeeper remained stationary instead of diving to make the save.
Matthijs de Ligt – 6/10
The Dutch international played a delightful long ball to Garnacho in the first half.
He was taken off early after the break, possibly due to the knock he took against Rangers.
Harry Maguire – 7/10
His heavy touch inadvertently handed Emile Smith Rowe an early sight of the goal.
He was otherwise solid as a rock at the heart of the defence, specifically in his aerial battles with Raul Jimenez.
Lisandro Martinez – 8/10
Martinez displayed smart ball distribution and took advantage of a bit of fortune as his long-range strike found the back of the net.
Diogo Dalot – 5/10
Dalot started in his favoured right wing-back spot but offered little support in the final third.
Noussair Mazraoui – 5/10
He played almost as a number 10 for the two-thirds of the game but this tactical tweak didn’t increase fluidity in the final third.
Manuel Ugarte – 6/10
Displayed good trick to win a free-kick in a dangerous position. Ruben Amorim will hope that his injury is not serious.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
Playing in the central midfield, he was more involved defensively.
His limited contribution in attack was also due to Mazraoui’s unusual position.
Alejandro Garnacho – 7/10
Another evening where Garnacho proved to be the most dynamic attacking threat for the Red Devils. United cannot sell him.
Amad Diallo – 6/10
Diallo was quiet in terms of creativity and his late goal was unfortunately ruled offside.
Rasmus Hojlund – 2/10
Hojlund may not have received the service he needed, but hold-up play is a fundamental skill for any striker.
Unfortunately, he struggled with it, consistently surrendering possession with careless giveaways.
Joshua Zirkzee – 5/10
He was more effective in link-up play than Hojlund, but failed to pose any real attacking threat.
Leny Yoro – 6/10
Yoro solidified the defence and displayed no signs of fatigue.
Toby Collyer – 8/10
Collyer’s vital clearance off the line in the dying moments of the game was a standout moment for the young midfielder.
Tyrell Malacia – NA
Too late to rate.
Kobbie Mainoo – NA
Too late to rate.
