The Mayor of Milan denies that the city has given an “ultimatum” on the San Siro to Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Milan Mayor Beppe Sala spoke on Italian broadcaster Radio24, via FCInter1908.
Inter and Milan are working diligently on plans to build a new stadium.
The clubs cannot demolish the San Siro and build a new stadium in its place. However, nothing is stopping them from building a new stadium adjacent to the existing one to replace it.
That is what the clubs are prioritizing, rather than the prior idea of building separately and outside the city of Milan.
However, there is still a lot of work for Inter and Milan to do.
There have been reports in recent days that the city has given the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri an “ultimatum.”
The clubs cannot drag their heels forever. They must make a concrete proposal to buy the land sooner or later so that the process of approving it can begin.
“There haven’t been much talks in recent days,” said Milan Mayor Beppe Sala.
“Because right now we’re pressing on the timeline.”
But Sala made clear that “There was no ultimatum.”
“However, since both parties – the city and the club – would like to complete the sale of the sale and the area around it before the summer holidays, we’re saying that every week we lose is one more we have to recover.”
The Milan Mayor admitted that the sale is “tricky.”
“We’re not just talking about the stadium. We’re also talking about the area around it.”
“But I’ve reassured the people of Milan that we’re not giving anything away.”
“The price is set by the Revenue Agency,” noted Milan Mayor Sala.
“Right now we’re telling the clubs that these works are going to take years – so let’s get down to the point.”
