FC Barcelona had to endure another difficult game last night as they faced Inter Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final tie. The Italians were quick to get ahead of the Catalans in this game, but the Blaugranes once again showed character and winning spirit as they were able to end the game on equal terms.

Mounir Nasraoui proud of his son Lamine Yamal

Naturally, the youngster’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, was quite ecstatic to see his son perform at such a level in such a big game. However, he was not really surprised by this performance, as he claimed in an interview, which has been reported by SPORT.

Although it was a world-class performance last night, Nasraoui was clear that his son still has a lot more to offer:

“He has great strength to keep going, he’s been working since he was five years old, no one is going to stop him. What we’ve seen so far is not even ten percent of what he can offer — I can promise you that.”

This performance once again resulted in Lamine Yamal being compared to some of the biggest names in the history of football, but his father explained that this is not something that influences the Barcelona winger:

“He’s not to be compared with Messi, Ronaldo or Maradona — he’s Lamine, and he wants to be an idol in his own neighborhood, among regular people, just like anyone else. We’re sorry if we unintentionally hurt anyone, we ask for forgiveness.”

Criticism from Madrid

The young winger has received some criticism from Madrid, but his father reminded everyone that he is also a Spanish international and should be respected for that:

“He’s also a player for the Spanish national team, not just for Barça — he does it for both sides. Visca el Barça and Viva España!… We should be praising a 17-year-old kid who has already played 100 matches for Barça, and we should all be proud, instead of complaining about whether he belongs to one team or another.”

Nasraoui’s comments definitely make sense, as a player as young as Yamal deserves only praise for playing at such a high level. Hopefully, he will continue to make his father and fans proud going forward, with performances like last night’s.
