City boss Pep Guardiola says he is delighted by the arrival of new defenders Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov.
Uzbek central defender Khusanov signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Club from Lens on Monday evening while young Brazilian full back Reis joined from Palmeiras earlier today also on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
Addressing the media at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s key Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain, the boss said he was thrilled to welcome them both to the City family.
And he added he saw no reason why they couldn’t go in to make a big impact looking ahead to the rest of the season.
“Welcome to them. To the City family. [We are] Really pleased,” Pep said.
“They are young players, so they come for many years. Different types.
“Khusanov played here in France. He has extraordinary physicality and hopefully can learn English as soon as possible.
“Reis is a young Brazilian, very exciting.
“In the Champions League it is not possible that they play until if we have qualified for the last 16.
“In the Premier League they are able to play already.”
City jetted out to the French capital ahead of a 20:00 (UK) kick-off on Wednesday 22 January, in what promises to be a crucial encounter.
After six games so far the Champions League, Guardiola’s side sit 22nd in the 36-team table with eight points.
Under the new-look league format, in order to progress straight to the last-16 teams have to finish in the top eight, while finishing between ninth and 24th takes sides to a play-off round.
To add to the intrigue, Paris have seven points and lie in 25th place in the table.
So, with the trip to PSG and a home clash with Club Brugge next week to come, it means there is everything to play for.
“Both teams have two matches. Of course, it’s a really important games for us and PSG. We have another game against Brugge, and I don’t know how many points we need,” Pep added.
“Maybe one victory we will be there. We were punished against Feyenoord. More games in the most difficult moment of the season and we couldn’t handle it.
“It's new for everyone. It’s a really important game for both of us but we have another game in few days.
“It's new for everyone. It’s a really important game for both.
We need six points maybe four maybe three. We will see.”
