Denzel Dumfries was involved in all three of Inter’s goals in a 3-3 draw away against a Lamine-Yamal-inspired Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final: A match that will surely go down as one of the greatest games in any competition this season.
Inter stormed to an early 2-0 lead through Marcus Thuram and Dumfries, but were pegged back to 2-2 before the half-time interval. Three players were forced off due to injury by that point, including Inter captain Lautaro Martinez. Dumfries struck again midway through the second half, only for Raphinha to hit a thunderbolt off the crossbar, which went down as a Yann Sommer own goal just over a minute later.
Here are the player ratings from a memorable night in Catalonia.
Sommer 6 – A tough night for the Switzerland international, who was beaten by a mesmerising Lamine Yamal finish, was helpless for Ferran Torres’s second and went home with an own goal against him after a Raphinha thunderbolt rebounded off the crossbar, onto the keeper’s back and then into the net.
Bisseck 5.5 – Raphinha was the German’s biggest threat positionally, and the fact that the Brazilian scored from the edge of the area following a corner means that he was not at fault.
Acerbi 6 – Tasked with going man-to-man with Ferran Torres for the majority of the game, but was unable to stop the Spaniard from making it 2-2 in the second half, although the attacking move that led to the equaliser was hardly his fault.
Bastoni 5 – Wasn’t able to make himself big enough to stop Lamine Yamal’s strike from hitting the back of the net in the first half: Bastoni and Mkhitaryan might have done a bit better to stop the teeanager, but it was a wonderful goal in fairness to him.
Dumfries 9 – Dreamland for the Dutchman in Barcelona on an individual level. Back from injury after missing almost six weeks of action to net two goals and provide a brilliant assist from right wing-back: His first goal involvements in the Champions League this season. (Six goals and two assists in Serie A).

Barella 6 – Had his work cut out for him in what was a non-stop battle in the middle of the park up against Pedri, Frenkie De Jong and later Gavi. Energetic as usual, but not the most influential game of his career.
Calhanoglu 5 – By his usual high standards, it was a relatively poor night for the Nerazzurri midfield conductor. Unconvincing and hooked after 70 minutes in favour of Davide Frattesi.
Mkhitaryan 5 – Needed to do better to stop Yamal before he broke into the area for his first-half goal. A tactical foul and yellow card would have been a wise decision in this instance. Offside by the slightest of margins for his goal that would have set the scores at 4-3.
Dimarco 5 – Sent in the corner that led to Dumfries’s first goal of the night. Not afforded the time or space to excel like he does in games against lesser opposition, but that was to be expected against one of the strongest teams in the world. Struggled defensively against Yamal.
Lautaro Martinez 6 – A worrying night for the Nerazzurri captain, who was forced off at the half-time break with an apparent thigh injury. Replaced by Mehdi Taremi, who was unable to live up to the skipper’s standards.

Thuram 7.5 – It could not have got off to a better start for the Frenchman, who found the back of the net with an improvised flick after just 30 seconds of action in Barcelona. Inter’s most threatening attacker all night on his return from injury. The Nerazzurri had lost all of their last three matches while he was out injured.
