Inter Milan temporarily drew level with Serie A pacesetters Napoli with a comfortable 2-0 victory against mid-table Torino. Despite bad weather, the Nerazzurri strolled to a third consecutive victory at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to stay alive in the Scudetto race.
Though often stubborn tactical-wise, Simone Inzaghi slightly altered his favorite 3-5-2 formation following a tiresome midweek in the Champions League. Inter needed extra-time to overcome runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona in the semi-final.
In addition to losing captain Lautaro Martinez to a minor fitness issue, Inter had to cope with the absences of Davide Frattesi, Benjamin Pavard, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
However, they enjoyed a perfect start as Nicola Zalewski slotted home a delightful mid-range strike to open the scoring in the 14th minute. The scoreline didn’t change before the 50th minute when Kristjan Asllani doubled the visitors’ lead from the spot.
There was never a way back into the game for Torino, even though they created several presentable opportunities. Without further ado, let’s jump to our Inter ratings.
Josep Martinez –
Despite several dangerous plays inside Inter’s box, the Spaniard barely had to intervene, making just one save in the opening hour. Made light worko of both subsequent attempts.
Alessandro Bastoni – 7
Not even horrendous weather conditions could knock the Italian defender off his perch as he dominated his penalty area with authority. Superb in the air and clinical in tackling!
Stefan de Vrij –
The Dutch veteran delivered another reassuring performance to keep Che Adamas at arm’s length. Calm and collected, he was the cornerstone of Inter’s impregnable backline.
Yann Bisseck – 5.5
Subbed off at halftime as fatigue kicked in, plus he picked up a needless booking toward the end of the first half.
Carlos Augusto – 6
After a lively start to the game, the Brazilian dropped his attacking ambitions to focus on helping Inter keep hold of a slender advantage.
Nicola Zalewski – 7
Despite playing slightly out of position, the Roma loanee scored his first goal for Inter, and it was spectacular, as he beat Vanja Milinkovic-Savic with a stunning curling effort.
Kristjan Asllani – 6.5
Far less eventful than last weekend against Hellas Verona, the Albanian playmaker had a rough game. Couldn’t find any killer pass but put away another penalty to put daylight between the sides.
Matteo Darmian – 5.5
His defensive oversight nearly allowed Adam Masina to draw Torino level midway through the first half. Completely irrelevant on the opposite end of the pitch.
Piotr Zielinski – 6
Back to the starting line-up after a brief layoff due to injury, the Polish midfielder showed signs of rustiness and barely influenced the play on a rainy evening in Turin.
Joaquin Correa –
The Argentine’s dreadful form continues. A near-anonymous performance from the ex-Lazio star, who’s on the verge of ending his nightmarish stint at Inter. Wasted a glorious chance to make it 3-0 and then some!
Mehdi Taremi –
Nearly scored a stunning overhead kick at the start of the second half but drew a crucial penalty moments later. Despite failing to score, the Iranian was outstanding in the link-up play.
Denzel Dumfries – 7
Federico Dimarco – 6.5
Hakan Calhanoglu – 6.5
Nicolo Barella – 7
