Watching the likes of Yamal perform is frightening, but it’s the level you want to be at and so too does Brendan Rodgers…

Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona looks on as an advertising board displays the word “priceless” during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Semi Final First Leg match between FC Barcelona and FC Internazionale Milano at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on April 30, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. If like me you watched the terrific UEFA Champions League semi-final clash between Barcelona and Inter Milan last night, then you would have throughly enjoyed every single second of it.

A great display of attacking football

It was great display of attacking football, and whilst some of the defending was questionable, it was a pleasant change to watch a game with two sides not holding back and going for it.

At the end of the day that’s what football is all about, and the Catalan giants have been rekindling memories of the famous Pep-Barca side which included Messi and co by producing an entertaining style of football that’s so easy on the eye.

Honours even in Barcelona – Can’t wait for the second leg in Milan

Barcelona had so many quality players on show none more so than 17 year old sensation Lamine Yamal who was simply outstanding and put on a Messieque performance.  He was an absolute pleasure to watch. That boy is going to be football’s next global superstar.

It was similar the previous night at the emirates as Arsenal took on PSG – two sides who unlike Celtic have never been Champions of Europe – in the other semi final, and despite not being as dramatic as events at the Nou Camp it was a joy to watch the footballing display and philosophy adopted by the French giants and in particular the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue who are just two of the many great talents among the ranks of the French Champions who are a much better ‘team’ now all their former superstars have moved on.

Arsenal lost at home to PSG

You would only be human if you feared the very thought of these guys up against our Celtic defence (no disrespect intended), I know I did! But at the end of the day that is the level you want to be competing at.

That boy Yamal is some player. His Celtic supporting dad must be so proud…
