According to a recent report from SPORT, it has come to light that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick reportedly had to intervene during the recent match against Valencia to ask Fermin Lopez to compose himself.
This incident highlighted the growing importance of Fermin in Barcelona’s squad, as well as the challenges he has faced in his journey to becoming a reliable option in midfield.
Fermin has encountered more obstacles than initially expected this season. At the beginning, two consecutive muscle injuries disrupted his rhythm.
Additionally, the pressure to prove himself and maintain his strong form from previous performances weighed heavily on him. These challenges made it difficult for him to find his groove on the pitch.
One noticeable issue was Fermin’s tendency to focus excessively on scoring. When his efforts did not yield goals, frustration became evident in his play.
Despite these struggles, Fermin made valuable contributions in key matches, such as those against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. However, it was during the clash against Valencia at Montjuic that he finally seemed to unlock his full potential.

Fermin’s performance against Valencia mirrored his impressive display, where he capitalised on a brilliant assist from Pedri to find the back of the net.
In this latest encounter, Flick entrusted him with a starting role in midfield alongside Frenkie de Jong and Pedri. Fermin delivered a remarkable performance, particularly during an aggressive first half.
Flick praised Fermin as a representation of the team’s spirited approach, which has seen them score an impressive 109 goals in 35 matches.
However, the German manager also emphasised the need for young players to develop a sense of game management. This became evident when, in the 85th minute, Fermin made a spirited dash to the corner.
Flick had to urge him to slow down and conserve energy, highlighting the importance of balancing intensity with strategic thinking.
“In the 85th minute, Fermin ran to the corner and I asked him to calm down. I’ve told him to take his time because we need to get some rest. But this is the mentality of this team: how they think and how they play,” said the manager.
Fermin’s journey this season demonstrates resilience and growth. As he continues to develop under Flick’s guidance, his role as a key player in Barcelona’s attacking midfield appears increasingly secure.
