Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that West Ham United are scouring the transfer market for attacking players who can play different roles. They are now interested in Giacomo Raspadori, who is 24-years-old and want to sign the player in the ongoing winter transfer window. The Hammers have already contacted Napoli regarding the player.

West Ham United want Giacomo Raspadori

Raspadori has grown in stature since joining Napoli. However, he hasn’t been a consistent part of the first-team lineup of the club. Raspadori has scored one goal in 11 matches so far in the Serie A 2024/2025 season. Overall, Raspadori’s goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.31. Moreover, Giacomo Raspadori’s total G/A (goals + assists) is one for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.31 per 90 minutes. His non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.34. This puts Giacomo Raspadori’s npxG output at 1.10.

Despite these stats, he has attracted the interest of quite a number of clubs, with the Hammers being the most interested in his services. Graham Potter needs attackers due to the long-term absences of Jarrod Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug, and Michail Antonio from the first team.

Fulkrug and Antonio are already old, so it leaves only Danny Ings as the fit striker in the squad. Potter can’t just depend on him for the rest of the season and hence needs attacking signings.

Why do the Hammers want him?

West Ham United’s interest in Giacomo Raspadori is understandable. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the winter transfer window. Graham Potter has some problems, with Jarrod Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug, and Michail Antonio being long-term absentees due to their respective issues.

In addition, Fullkrug and Antonio are on the wrong side of 30, while Danny Ings, the only fit striker in Potter’s squad, is not good enough to be the first-choice striker. The Hammers need offensive reinforcement. So, several attackers, including Marcus Rashford, are on West Ham’s radar. They are 14th in the points table in the Premier League with 27 points in 23 matches. Signing Raspadori could go on to help them elevate their standings in the latter half of the season.
