Cole Palmer's Chelsea contract does not include a release clause relating to the club's involvement in the Champions League, a new report has stated.
Palmer's future has surprisingly found itself in the headlines in recent weeks, with reports speculatively hinting at interest in the England international from Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Fuelling the speculation have been rumours on social media revolving around Palmer's contract. The specific claim has been the existence of a release clause which would allow the 23-year-old to leave this summer if Chelsea do not qualify for the Champions League. The Blues are currently fifth in the Premier League - good enough to qualify this season - but face some tough fixtures which could easily see them fall away.
Whether Chelsea reach the Champions League or not, The Mail state there are no fears about losing Palmer this summer as his contract does not include such a release clause.
There is significant confidence that Palmer will still be at Chelsea beyond the summer, with the Blues keen to build around a player who recently climbed into tenth in their all-time Premier League scoring charts after just two years at Stamford Bridge.
Palmer ended an 18-game goal drought with a penalty in the impressive 3-1 win over Liverpool last weekend, after which he lashed out at "idiots and trolls" on social media.
"S**t happens," Palmer said of his dry spell before immediately apologising for his language. "I went three months without scoring but it just gives me more motivation, more fight to do well, not just for myself but for the team.
"You know yourself social media is just full of idiots, trolls or whatever. I don't pay no attention. To score today I'm happy. It's only one and I've got to keep improving to try and reach my levels. For anyone not getting chances, not scoring, you're letting your team down at the end of the day. I feel like I'm mentally strong anyway."
