Carlton Palmer has revealed his thoughts on a reunion between Lewis O'Brien and Carlos Corberan at West Brom.

Championship trio Leeds United, Sheffield United, and West Bromwich Albion are all reportedly interested in Lewis O'Brien, but Carlton Palmer believes the Baggies could have the edge in talks after O'Brien's time spent working with Carlos Corberan.

The latest regarding the Nottingham Forest midfielder's future comes via TEAMtalk, who have reported that Hull City and Stoke City are also interested in recruiting the midfielder, who is currently plying his trade in the United States on loan at LAFC from the Premier League side.

With the chances of him winning much game time at Nottingham Forest appearing slim, he has been sent out on loan for a third time, with the midfielder returning to the US after a temporary spell at Middlesbrough last season. He first went on loan to DC United prior to joining Michael Carrick on Teeside.

O'Brien is likely to be interesting multiple clubs in the Championship, as he is unlikely to feature in Forest's first-team plans this term. If he can remain fit, then he is a quality operator at this level, with his best season coming under West Brom's boss in the dugout.

One of the most memorable seasons of his career so far came at Huddersfield Town, with O'Brien playing a key part in the Terriers' journey to the play-off final under Corberan and earning that move to Forest based on his performances.

Ex-England international and EFL pundit Carlton Palmer believes that could be the difference in securing his services with any kind of loan or permanent deal.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, he said: "Listen, we all know what Lewis O'Brien did under Carlos Corberan.

"So, obviously, given the start to the season under Corberan, they do need to add to their playing squad.

"Shilen Patel has backed Carlos Corberan thus far, and they might believe that they can go a bit further if the recruitment and resources are there.

"They also might be bracing themselves because they might lose one or two of their young stars in the January transfer window.

"West Brom sit fifth in the Championship with 20 points. They will be looking to cement a play-off place again this season.

"If they can beat the other clubs to the signature of O'Brien, then you would think that, given he has worked with Corberan before and done really well with him, that he would not necessarily favour a move to West Brom but that they would obviously be the frontrunners.

"They would be at the forefront for his signature, given his relationship with the manager and what has happened before.

"But, it won't be easy with the quality of clubs in for him, and I believe Southampton have also shown an interest in him.

"Southampton, in my opinion, will get relegated this season back to the Championship, but he would have the chance to play in the Premier League.

"Of course, we all know this will come down to finances as the time comes to sign him. Especially given the length of the list of teams interested in his signature."

During his time at Huddersfield under Corberan, O'Brien was a dynamic, all-action midfielder who epitomised the intensity and energy required in Corberan's out of possession system. Known for his relentless pressing, O'Brien was integral to Huddersfield’s high-octane style, often driving the team forward with his ability to carry the ball as well.

He was equally effective without the ball, showcasing his work rate and willingness to put in a defensive shift, which made him a fan favourite. Of course, West Brom are a ball-dominant team these days under the ever-evolving Spaniard, but O'Brien would be able to slot in comfortably.

A reunion with Corberan at West Brom could be an astute move for both player and club. O'Brien thrived previously and adding some extra dynamism and depth to their midfield would be a smart move for a promotion-chasing outfit. For O'Brien, he could rediscover the form that made him one of the Championship’s standout performers after the persistent injury issues with Boro.
