Inter Milan are getting serious about trying to sign Bologna striker Santiago Castro next summer.

This according to Italian outlet Gazzetta.it. They report that the Argentine’s performances have been very much convincing the Nerazzurri. They believe that he can offer the same kind of profile as his compatriot Lautaro Martinez.

Castro is a player who has come onto Inter’s radar.

The Nerazzurri are all but certain to make a signing in attack next summer. They will be replacing, at minimum, Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa who will both depart when their contracts expire.

But Inter’s strategy will be a bit different this time around.

In recent years, the Nerazzurri have focused on experienced players. They have signed players on free transfers or low-cost deals, but with high wages.

Inter owners Oaktree Capital want to change that. Their priority is to invest in younger players, who may command higher transfer fees, but can also offer more potential for growth and resale value.

Inter Get Serious In Pursuit Of Bologna Striker Santiago Castro

It is in line with this focus on targeting younger players that Castro has emerged as one of the top names on Inter’s shortlist in attack.

The Argentine is twenty years of age. Therefore, he would certainly have plenty of time to improve.

And Castro has already impressed in Serie A with Bologna.

From Inter’s perspective, the 20-year-old has a very similar profile to their captain Lautaro Martinez.

Therefore, Inter back Castro as a player who would be able to fit very well into their 3-5-2 formation.

Castro won’t come cheap. Bologna will certainly expect a significant fee considering the form that he has shown this season.

But Inter won’t necessarily mind investing if they see the Argentine as the right target.

And Castro’s performance in yesterday’s Serie A draw between Inter and Bologna convinced the Nerazzurri.

The 20-year-old opened the scoring for the Rossoblu in the first half. Moreover, his overall performance hardly changed Inter’s view that he could offer the same kind of profile as Martinez.
