Following Swansea City, MacFarlane’s group will hit the road to face Colchester United Under-21s on Friday, rounding out four games in 11 days.
It’s been an entertaining inaugural season in the PDL for the young Bees, one that didn’t start out as planned in the win column.
After one league victory from their opening five games, Brentford have been in scintillating form, a 6-1 victory over Charlton Athletic in October kick-starting a 13-game unbeaten run, including 11 wins.
The strong run of results came to an end against Millwall at the Den, before the young Bees bounced back to beat Birmingham City 2-0 last time out.
It means MacFarlane’s side sit second in the south group table coming into Monday’s clash, one point off table leaders Charlton Athletic with one game in hand.
With 20 games now under their belt, 11 league fixtures remain for Brentford as they eye a top two finish in the south group.
That would set up a semi-final clash with the other top two side, the winner going on to face the winner of the north group semi-final in the final.
Following a 3-0 defeat to Millwall, Brentford were back to winning ways last time out, beating Birmingham City 2-0 at Wheatsheaf Park.
First team defender Aaron Hickey returned to the pitch following 15 months out with a hamstring injury and found the back of the net to get the young Bees off to a flying start.
Iwan Morgan added a second later in the first half, the two goals enough to secure all three points for Brentford.
Previously against Swansea City, the young Bees fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw away from home.
Morgan opened the scoring, Kyreece Lisbie then adding a second on the stroke of half-time to give Brentford a strong lead.
Coming out of the break, the young Swans scored twice to level, only for Caelan Avenell to put MacFarlane's side back ahead soon after. A late equaliser from Swansea City meant the points were shared.
It has been an inconsistent season for Swansea City so far, the young Swans sitting ninth in the south group PDL table with six wins, three draws and nine losses.
After back-to-back wins to begin 2025, they suffered a four-game losing streak, allowing 16 goals while scoring four.
Swansea fought their way out of the rut with a strong 3-1 win over QPR last time out, sending them into Monday’s clash in good form.
