The next eleven days could prove decisive for Inter Milan in both the Serie A title race and the Champions League.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Inter take on Empoli this evening Serie A. But it is only the first of four matches to go before the end of January.
During the week, the Nerazzurri take on Sparta Prague in the Champions League. Matches against Lecce in the league and Monaco in Europe follow.
And across all these matches, Inter will be feeling the pressure to win.
In the league, Napoli’s win over Atalanta yesterday has made the situation clear.
Inter will feel that they need six points against Empoli and Lecce to keep the pressure on the Partenopei at the top.
With two games in hand against Napoli, the Nerazzurri’s fate is still very much in their own hands.
But a failure to win either of the next two matches would change that. Handing the initiative to a Napoli side with no European football could already derail Inter’s title defense.
Meanwhile, in the Champions League, six points would guarantee Inter a spot in the round of sixteen.
Four points could potentially see the Nerazzurri qualify directly for the knockouts. But there’s no guarantee.
And anything less that would put Inter in real peril. They could be facing the prospect of a playoff round next month.
