Premier League target Elye Wahi set to join Eintracht Frankfurt | OneFootball

Marseille centre-forward Elye Wahi (22) is closing in on a move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, according to a report from Foot Mercato. The outlet understands that the Ligue 1 club is close to reaching an agreement with their Bundesliga counterparts regarding a permanent move for the France U21 international. West Ham United and Bournemouth AFC reportedly monitored Wahi’s situation.

RMC Sport adds that the Marseille striker has also reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt. Wahi is close to signing for a third club in only two seasons. After his breakout years in Montpellier, Wahi signed for RC Lens in a €30m deal eighteen months ago. He left the Artois side to join their Ligue 1 rivals Marseille with Les Phocéens agreeing on a similar €30m transfer fee, which took into account €5m worth of performance-related add-ons. Wahi played a mostly peripheral role under the tutelage of Roberto De Zerbi as the Italian manager relies on Neal Maupay to lead the line. Wahi has logged three goals and one assist in 13 appearances for Les Phocéens.

Marseille were reportedly reluctant to part ways with Wahi only months after his signing. But Eintracht’s major €80m sale of Omar Marmoush to Manchester City completely changed the situation as Dino Töppmoller’s side intends to reinvest fresh funds to replace the free-scoring Egyptian sensation. Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly submitted a bid close to the €25m Marseille paid for last summer, which prompted Les Phocéens to greenlight Wahi’s exit. Foot Mercato understands OM might now scour the market for a centre-forward.
