Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has tipped Marcus Rashford to move to Paris Saint-Germain or to the Saudi Pro League, with the England international heading for an Old Trafford exit.

Rashford, 27, cast doubt over his United future by declaring he is ready for a new challenge after he was omitted from last Sunday’s Manchester derby.

Ruben Amorim acknowledged his decision by revealing he has not been impressed by Rashford’s performances in training and that he expected much more from the forward.

Sharpe, who made 193 appearances in eight years at United, believes Rashford only has two realistic choices as he seeks his next move.

“The only place I can see him going is Paris Saint-Germain or Saudi,” Sharpe revealed when speaking to Hayters TV in association with William Hill.

“I think they’re the only ones that can afford his wages and transfer fee. I think the thing is if he said in that statement he wanted to leave Old Trafford then he’s left Manchester United in a very tough place because if other clubs know he wants to leave they’re not going to be prepared to pay the high price that Man Utd may put on him.

“I think they’re also going to be struggling to put a high price on him because of his lack of consistency in performances over the last season or two.

“So I think they could find themselves in a bit of a rock and a hard place because of his wages. He still has three years left on his contract, which is £300,000 a week. So he’ll be limited to options.

“That’s why I say PSG, if they can afford his transfer fee, I know they can afford his wages.

“Saudi can afford both, but he sort of rules himself out of any future England squad with that, so I’m not sure how ambitious he is to play with England.

Amorim was praised for his ruthlessness in dealing with both Rashford and team mate Alejandro Garnacho and Sharpe has been impressed by the United head coach’s first few weeks at the club.

“He looks really good, I think he speaks really well, I think he’s a very confident bloke, he seems a very bright man, doesn’t go over emotional about certain situations and about decisions that he has to make,” he continued.

“He’s brave in his decision-making. I think it’s been very difficult for him in the fact that he plays a different formation and he’s got players that are suited to other formations.

“He’s had players with injuries in and out of the team. He’s played different formations and different clientele every game I think so far. That’s another difficult thing for him.

“He’s making a lot of substitutions during games, quite early in games as well. But I think we see positive signs, but we do still see a little bit of the old Man United where they’re giving silly goals away, silly chances away, and it costs them games at times.”
