Stade Rennais have reached an agreement in principle to bring in RC Strasbourg Alsace’s head of recruitment, Loïc Désiré, according to a report from L’Équipe. The Frenchman would replace Frederic Massara as sporting director at the Breton club.
Massara only joined Les Rennais last summer, however, he will pay the price for a poor recruitment drive in the summer. Despite a big spend, none of his recruits truly paid dividends. There was another splurge in January – to greater effect – however, with the club languishing in lower-mid-table, they have fallen considerably short of their objective of obtaining European football.
Désiré looks set to be the man to replace him. The Frenchman has spent the last 11 years at Strasbourg, who were taken over by BlueCo in the summer of 2023. He has reached an agreement in principle to join Rennes at the end of the season. Désiré, who has played a less prominent role since BlueCo’s arrival, has been keen on the move and on a return to Brittany.
