Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham has been talking all things Spurs ahead of the big North London derby tomorrow, when speaking to OLBG.
To begin, he was asked about Ange being in trouble, should he not win a trophy this season, to which he responded: "Yes, well - it depends where they get to in the cups. Ange Postecoglu has obviously said he wins things in his second year. That could be interesting if he doesn't, but also interesting if he does. To be honest, it would be quite apt if he does win a trophy.
If they go out in the next round of the FA Cup, and go out in the semi-final of the League Cup, and get knocked out in the Europa League, and finish where they are in the league at the moment, then it wouldn't be a good season.
They're a very up-and-down team, a very inconsistent team, but they've got a lot of players missing at the moment. If they get some of them back and they go on a run, who knows what will happen? It's still very early in the season at the moment to say ifs and buts.
But from his point of view, the plan will still be to win something, that's what it's all about in football."
Next, he was asked if Dominic Solanke is the right man to replace Harry Kane, and how good he thinks he can become, where he responded with: "There were question marks at the start of the season on who would be the right man to come in, but I think he's proven himself very well.
You only have to see his goal that he made the other day against Liverpool [in the Carabao Cup], it was fantastic centre-forward play. I think he's well on the way to being a very, very good signing. I said at the start of the season, [that] I was optimistic and impressed by him and there's no reason to change my mind at the moment”.
Then, Sheringham was asked which players should Spurs be looking to sign this window: "I think Ange Postecoglou would be very delighted if he got his players that are already at the club fit - that would be just as good as new signings.
If you think of Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario as well, they're three top players. If you took them out of any team or if you added them to any team, it's going to have a huge impact on the whole team.
I have to say people like Archie Gray have been fantastic [at filling in for the missing centre-backs] and it's an unbelievable experience he's getting at the moment. Having said that, there is no experience that compares to having your top players playing. There's nothing like it when you're playing in a team and your two centre-halves are controlling everything across the pitch”.
Finally, the former Spurs man was asked for his thoughts and predictions ahead of the North London derby that takes place tomorrow evening: "I think they're the hardest team to predict at the moment, Tottenham [are].
There's got to be goals in the game, hasn’t there? Arsenal don't normally concede that many and they're very strong at the back, but Tottenham can unlock a lot of defences, most defences. Arsenal can score goals at the moment, so I’d say 3-3.”
Safe to say it wouldn't be good for the heart rate of any fans if the score tomorrow ends up being 3-3, but that is the rollercoaster of being a Spurs fan, so it wouldn't be that much of a surprise at this point. Good to see the encouragement towards Solanke, that is a great co-sign for any striker to have, given how good a player Sheringham was.
He's also spot on about the players coming back from injury, though a couple of additions do feel important to the season nevertheless.
