Tottenham Hotspur Eyeing Summer Swoop For This Lazio Ace: Why They Must Step Up The Chase

If a report from the Italian outlet TVPlay is believed to be true, Tottenham Hotspur keep close tabs on Danish attacking ace Gustav Isaksen ahead of a potential summer transfer. The Lazio winger is the latest name to emerge as a transfer target after Marcus Thuram, Tyler Dibling and Kingsley Coman.

Spurs are struggling at the wrong end of the league standings with Europa League being the only realistic hope for Ange Postecoglou’s army. Elimination from Europe could see him lose his job, but the Aussie boss has also been unlucky with persistent injury woes. While he loaned in Mathys Tel in January to bolster down the flank, a decision is yet to be made on whether to splash £50m in the summer for the Bayern Munich youngster.

The 23-year-old Denmark international progressed through the academy ranks of Roslev IK and Midtjylland before breaking into the latter’s first-team squad in 2019. After an exquisite 2022–23 campaign with 22 goals in 44 outings, Isaksen completed a €13.4m transfer to Serie A side Lazio a couple of summers ago.

Why Tottenham Hotspur Must Tie Him Down

After a slow start to life in Rome, the young forward is finally showing his expertise across the frontline. Isaksen has netted and laid on 5 times each in 39 appearances so far this season across competitions, but the flexibility he offers could see him flourish in Premier League football.

Tottenham have an array of wide attacking options in their ranks. Besides Tel, Skipper Son Heung-min, Richarlison, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner have challenged and covered each other on the flanks, yet they have several shortcomings due to form and fitness concerns.

Son, 32, has been a shadow of his earlier self. Richarlison is going through a stop-start stint due to his injury misfortune, and Werner, on loan from RB Leipzig, has hardly impressed since joining them in January 2024. Despite showing glimpses of his quality, Odobert is not ready yet to feature week in, and week out. Johnson had his moments high up the pitch, but the arrival of Isaksen would inject versatility, depth and quality in attack.

Meanwhile, Lazio are keen on Federico Chiesa who has hardly been involved in Liverpool colours since his €12m summer transfer from Juventus. The Reds should not stand in his way if a suitable bid is tabled for the Azzurri ace and the Biancocelesti might snap him up for €15m to replace Isaksen.
