The 2024-25 campaign has turned out to be a disaster for Tottenham Hotspur, but they can still make it memorable by winning the Europa League.
Ange Postecoglou’s side has endured an injury-ravaged season, but 15 defeats in the Premier League are still inexcusable.
And now, Postecoglou’s job is hanging by a thread. Spurs have been reportedly checking on other options, but on this occasion, Daniel Levy has shown tremendous patience.
Failing to finish within the top half of the table may impact the transfer budget, and Tottenham will have to act smartly when signing players.
In recent weeks, Spurs have been showing interest in Lazio’s right-winger Gustav Isaksen, and the north London club will be pleased with the 23-year-old’s brilliant effort for Denmark in their win against Portugal.
Isaksen started for Denmark and he was simply outstanding on the night.
Danish newspaper BT described his performance as “huge”, saying he proved to be a nightmare for Nuno Mendes, who is arguably one of the best left-backs in the world.
They gave him a five-star performance, adding that Isaksen deserved at least one goal and an assist from the game.
The newspaper wrote: “Huge match! The currently arguably best left-back in the world, Nuno Mendes, will have nightmares about Gustav Isaksen in the coming weeks.
“The Midtjyden terrorized the PSG star in the first half. And when he was moved to the opposite side in the second half, Nélson Semedo received the same cruel treatment. Isaksen deserved both the goal and the assist last night.”
Isaksen managed five shots and played out three key passes. He also managed 92.3% passing accuracy and made one interception to cap off a terrific performance.
According to a recent report from TvPlay, Tottenham “really likes” Isaksen, and the North London club could make a move for him in the summer.
Lazio are keen to sign Federico Chiesa from Liverpool, and they will be happy to trade Isaksen if they receive a fee of around £33 million.
The deal is not impossible, and Lazio are evaluating the possible transfer.
Spurs should look to add more depth and quality in their attacking areas, and Isaksen would be a fantastic addition to the squad.
Known for his ability to dribble past players and provide crosses, Isaksen can also chip in with important goals. He has scored five goals and provided four assists in all competitions for Lazio this season, but his latest performance for his country should draw Tottenham’s attention even more.
