Albert Gronbaek has officially joined Southampton on loan. He spoke about how Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg convinced him.

Well, it's now official. Southampton have signed Albert Gronbaek from Rennes. The Danish midfielder will be under contract until the end of the season, where Southampton can then choose whether to sign him permanently.

Rightfully so, there is no negativity surrounding this signing. As far as the Saints are concerned, they are signing a versatile midfielder who can come in risk-free to help them with their safety push.

Naturally, little is known about Gronbaek until we see him in a Southampton shirt. Then, we can see how Ivan Juric plans to use him within his tactical system.

We have already hazarded our guess at where Albert Gronbaek fits into the Southampton lineup. This, though, is merely a guessing game until we see it in real life.

When speaking about joining Southampton, Albert Gronbaek surprisingly mentioned former Southampton midfielder and current Tottenham player (on loan at Marseille), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Gronbaek revealed that he spoke with Hojbjerg after facing him recently in Ligue 1. He claimed that having experience, Hojbjerg could only say good things about Southampton.

In his own words (quoted by Daily Echo), Gronbaek said: “I spoke to him actually because we played against each other in Ligue 1 not that long ago,"

“I spoke to him and he only had good things to say. That is also a nice thing as a new player when you know a bit about the background. It’s only good vibes."

How influential Hojbjerg was to making Gronbaek sign for Southampton will never truly be known. However, it can only be a good thing that he is still batting for Southampton, even while playing in another country.

It is quite a shame to watch what happened to Hojbjerg at Spurs. Despite being one of their best players, he was frozen out last season and now he's been sent out on loan.
