Carney Chukwuemeka is available for transfer in January but Chelsea won’t consider a cut price deal according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The January window is fast approaching, although Chelsea aren’t expected to be busy next month in terms of incomings.

The Blues are on the lookout for a centre back and have been linked with Bournemouth duo Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi, whilst rumours of a move for Randal Kolo Muani have been shut down.

Chukwuemeka not available for cut price deal

Outgoings are set to be the main theme of January, with Cesare Casadei attracting interest from multiple suitors, whilst the club are also keen to find solutions for Ben Chilwell and Chukwuemeka.

Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea for £20m from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022, but despite showing glimpses of his quality his time at Stamford Bridge has been plagued by injury.

The 21-year-old has hardly had a look in under Enzo Maresca and hasn’t been named in a single match day squad in the league this season.

Chukwuemeka has made five appearances for the Blues, totalling just 130 minutes, and  he’s started just one game all season against Astana in the Conference League.

The current situation isn’t good for either party and Jacobs has reported Chukwuemeka is available for transfer, but Chelsea won’t sell him on the cheap.

He took to X.com and said:

“Carney Chukwuemeka is available for a January exit, but Chelsea are not considering a cut-price sale. It means a permanent transfer will require Chukwuemeka’s £40m release clause to be paid.

“#CFC paid Aston Villa £20m and believe Chukwuemeka, despite limited opportunities, has big potential. That’s why if they are to sell rather than loan they except double what they paid.”

Given his lack of game time it’s difficult to imagine anyone paying £40m in January, and it seems the best solution is a loan to get him playing regularly in an attempt to attract more suitors to show he is worth that money.
