This Saturday we remember a tremendous Rojiblanco striker, who experienced several epic moments with Guadalajara and was even part of one of the generation most remembered by Mexican soccer fans: the 'Super Chivas'. We are talking about Missael Espinoza, who has reached the age of 60 and that merits a review of the highlights of his professional career.

Eduardo Missael Espinoza Padilla was born on April 12, 1965 in Tepic, Nayarit. He started playing soccer there and soon caught the attention of Monterrey's scouts, who invited him to join the club to complete his training. He made his debut in the First Division on the first day of the 1984-85 season, in a match between Monterrey and Morelia.

Missa' arrived at the Rebaño for the 1993-94 campaign and was one of the star signings of the beloved 'Super Chivas'. He quickly endeared himself to the fans with his good performances, starting with a hat-trick on the opening day of that competition, in a 5-3 away win over Puebla.

His best season with Guadalajara was 94-95, in which he played 36 games, played 2818 minutes, scored 13 goals and provided six assists. His presence and talent were key to the team's style of play, which years later won its tenth title by defeating Toros Neza 7-2 in the Final, with Ricardo Ferretti as coach (Summer 97).

Special moments in Missael Espinoza's career:

  • In the friendly match that Guadalajara played against Atlético Mineiro at the Jalisco Stadium on August 19, 1995, the home side's second goal was majestic. Joel Sánchez broke away at speed and played to Daniel Guzmán, who back-heeled the ball back to the 'Shark', who then gave it to Missael Espinoza to score in front of the goalkeeper, then World Champion, Claudio Taffarel. The match ended in a 3-3 draw.
  • In the Liguilla of the 1994-95 campaign, the Laguneros won the first leg of the Quarterfinals 3-1, but in the second leg, the red and white team came from behind and Missa was the protagonist. Chivas won the second match 2-0 at the Jalisco Stadium, with goals from Missael Espinoza and Daniel Guzmán, and thus advanced to the Semifinals.
  • Espinoza made history by scoring Chivas' 2500th goal in the Mexican League. He did it in J15 of the 93-94 season, in Chivas' victory over León.
  • He played for Chivas for 4 years.
  • His overall numbers with the Rebaño are as follows: He played 104 league matches as a player for Guadalajara, scoring 30 goals and scoring eight assists.
  • He retired with the Rayados jersey in the 2005 Clausura.
  • He was a member of the teams that represented Mexico in the America Cups of Ecuador 93 and Uruguay 95, and also participated in the World Cup of the United States 94.
