According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, along with other members of the coaching team, are set to attend a summit to discuss the future plans for young midfielder Gavi.

The primary focus of this meeting will be to determine whether Gavi should join the team on their upcoming pre-season tour of the United States.

If it is decided that he will join the tour, the objective would be for him to gradually reintroduce himself to first-team activities and start the necessary process of readapting to the field after a long period of inactivity.

However, he would not be expected to participate in any of the three demanding friendly matches scheduled during the tour. Instead, the aim would be for Gavi to regain his confidence and familiarity with the training environment and group dynamics.

Final stage of recovery

It is said that Gavi is in the final stages of his recovery, having been sidelined for eight months through a serious injury he suffered during the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

He was diagnosed with a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, along with damage to the external meniscus, which required surgical intervention.

For the past month, Gavi has been training alone on the pitch, with extreme caution being exercised due to the severity of his injury.

Both Barcelona’s medical team and Gavi himself are committed to the recovery plan, ensuring he remains on track. The expectation is for him to return to his best form by early 2025. Until then, he must complete his recovery, and begin readapting to match conditions.

Flick is impressed with Gavi

Gavi recently passed all mandatory medical exams at the start of the preseason with flying colours and has impressed Flick big time. His recovery is progressing well, but the club remains mindful that rushing his return could be detrimental.

Before the pre-season, a crucial decision will be made by the medical team and coaching staff on whether Gavi should join the tour or stay in Barcelona to continue his established recovery plan.

In the upcoming days, a summit will be held to make this decision. The meeting will include Julio Tous, head of physical preparation, Ricardo Pruna, head of the club’s medical services, and Flick. They will decide the best course of action for Gavi’s rehabilitation.

Alternatively, Gavi might also remain in Barcelona to accelerate the final phase of his recovery through individualised training with Pepe Conde and Rafa Maldonado, the new field physical trainers, and German Fernández, the new gym and strength trainer, all under Julio Tous’s supervision.
