Juventus Women's First Team's unbeaten run in the league continued as the Bianconere won 3-0 against AC Milan thanks to an excellent performance in all departments, whether it be technically, tactically or athletically.
Juventus made their game plan clear right from their start, showing their desire to win and dominate the opposition, both in terms of intensity and control of the game.
Only five minutes had passed before the Bianconere were ahead through a touch of class by Cristiana Girelli. The Bianconere number 10 took advantage of a lapse in concentration by the Milan defence and finished with with a precise lob over Laura Giuliani.
From that moment on, Juve did not loosen their grip on the game and continued to play at a high tempo. Their constant pressure was rewarded again on the 9th minute, when Arianna Caruso took advantage of an excellent attacking move and beat Giuliani, doubling the lead.
Juve controlled the game with confidence, preventing Milan from settling into the game. In the 19th minute, Caruso again came close to scoring: her shot was deflected behind for a corner by Giuliani. Milan tried to react, but struggled to pose much of a threat. The Rossoneri's only real chance came in the 22nd minute through a wayward attempt from the left hand-side.
Juventus, for their part, continued to search for a third: in the 33rd minute Lindsay Thomas's header grazed the post. To close out the first half, in the 42nd minute, there was a sensational chance for Sofia Cantore who hit the post after having beaten Giuliani.
The second half began in very much the same vein as the first: Juve on the attack and Cantore the protagonist, as she celebrated her shirt’s induction into the Juventus Museum in the perfect way. Whilst her previous effort had struck the post, she made no mistake in the 53rd minute and curled an unstoppable shot into the corner.
Juve closed out the match following their third goal and took their foot off the pedal whilst continuing to control the game: Milan were rocked by the three goals and the Bianconere began to think about conserving energy ahead of their Champions League tie on Tuesday. Milan tried pose athreat on a few occasions as they soight a consolation goal, but it was Juve who had the final effort on goal through Alisha Lehmann.
It ended 3-0: and there is no better way with which to approach the big challenge against Arsenal.
“Are we in the best form of our season? I hope not, we still have room for improvement... certainly we are in the best form since the beginning of this year, we are doing well, and then winning helps to keep our momentum. It's good to see that we don't have problems with our approach: today we scored immediately, and that doesn't always happen, but on the contrary, if you approach the match badly, then you have to chase the game. Today we did well both in possession and out of possession, I must say it was a very good performance; I won’t deny that it's nice to be in front, but it's very difficult at the moment to make predictions for the season: we certainly have a very good squad, suitable to face such an intense season, and all the girls know they are important. Now we turn our attention to Arsenal, from tomorrow morning we will start preparing for that match. We show respect to everyone and obviously also to them as they are a strong team, but we know what we are capable of and that our mentality will also be fundamental.”
“I am happy not only for the goal, but also for the assist for Arianna Caruso: Del Piero's birthday brought me luck... joking aside, we are happy to top of the league, but the coach asks us to focus on one match at a time, there is still a long way to go in the championship season, we will think about the league all the time: we are pleased that we are doing well, because we are working hard and we are very good together as a group. Our way of playing requires a lot of intensity, but it's also true that we have fun together; when you wear the Juve shirt the objective must be to win, and when you perform well, often the result comes with it. The Champions League? We knew that winning today would give us a boost of confidence, from tomorrow our focus turns to Arsenal, and we will have to play as well as we know we are capable of doing.”
“We are happy with the way we are working together in defence: we have been able to work hard and remain compact, and we do that in every game, and that is an important aspect, especially in defence. Playing with three for me is an excellent solution, it allows me to defend well but also to push on in possession.”
