Former Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong could give Brendan Rodgers an extra €10m to spend this summer. The Dutch fullback won the league in Scotland before making the switch to the Bundesliga and becoming a German Champion. Although, performances since he made the move in 2021 have resulted in his value growing.
Taking to Twitter, Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Celtic could earn the windfall as Frimpong is ‘one to watch’ because of his €40m buyout fee.
Celtic signed Frimpong from Man City for a development fee but had to pay a chunk to the English side after he moved in 2021. Celtic inserted their own sell-on fee, which is reportedly around 25% – meaning a profit of up to €10m.
In 182 appearances, Frimpong has scored 29 times and assisted on 40 occasions for Leverkusen. The right wingback has been linked with moves back to the Premier League but also with moves to Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
