The Columbus Crew have signed a new U22 Initiative player ahead of the 2024 season starting, winger Marino Hinestroza. The Crew signed Hinestroza from Pachuca in Liga MX after he roughly played 700 minutes for the Mexican giants during the Liga MX Apertura. The 21 year old attacker won a Liga MX Apertura previously with Pachuca, while finishing his time there with 46 games, 2 goals, and 4 assists. Previously, Hinestroza also had 1 appearance for CD America de Cali in his native country of Colombia.
With some versatility, I can see Hinestroza playing either further up in the attack for Nancy’s side or playing as a wide midfielder. This could mean we see him in some depth roles behind the likes of Alexandru Matan, Diego Rossi, or even a Mo Farsi. Either way, the young Colombian seems like a player with massive talent, just needing the time and environment to grow. If any manager within MLS has gotten the most out of young talent, it’s Wilfried Nancy and a signing like this has me very excited to see what is in store for him.
