Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens as the race to sign the English prodigy heats up.

The London-born forward, who honed his skills at Manchester City’s academy, is said to prioritise a return to England ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Dortmund have ruled out a January exit for Gittens, but they’re open to a deal in the summer as speculation mounts regarding his long-term future.

United have already initiated contact with the player’s representatives as they aim to gain an edge in what promises to be a fierce battle for his signature.

The 20-year-old is enjoying a breakout season with Dortmund, notching 11 goals and five assists in 28 games across all competitions.

He has been directly involved in 34% of Dortmund’s goals this season, cementing his status as one of the most exciting young talents in European football.

United and Chelsea have been told that Gittens won’t come cheap.

Dortmund’s management is determined to maximise the return on their prized asset, especially as the club faces financial pressures tied to their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The Bundesliga outfit is reportedly seeking a fee in the region of €100 million (£84m) – a sum that could provide a crucial economic buffer if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

United are planning a significant rebuild next summer and are relishing the chance to bolster their attacking options with a player of Gittens’ calibre.

He’s seen as a long-term replacement for wantaway forward Marcus Rashford, who is determined to join Barcelona this month.
