Jeremy Doku has sent a heartwarming message to his Manchester City attacking teammate Savinho following his Premier League debut on Sunday afternoon.

The two lightning wingers were both selected for their first Premier League starts of the season on the weekend, with the Brazilian making his full debut for Manchester City after joining from Troyes earlier this summer.

A £33.6 million total potential package was struck between the two City Football Group sides, highlighting the remarkable talents developed and showcased on loan at Girona in La Liga last season.

Manchester City fans got their first glimpse of Savinho’s talent during the FA Community Shield meeting with Manchester United a week prior, but the clash at Stamford Bridge brought plenty more to be excited about, in a performance that also impressed his teammates.

Speaking to the media after the win over Chelsea on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, Jeremy Doku was keen to issue praise to new signing Savinho following his first start for Manchester City in the English top-flight.

“As a dribbler I like it when players take on their man. Savinho is a player that does that and takes a lot of risks,” Doku told reporters at Stamford Bridge.

He continued, “I remember my first game – I was stressed a lot so coming here and starting your first game against Chelsea and putting in that sort of performance…”

“Congratulations to him, I respect that a lot and I think there is still more to come from him. We’re very happy to have him with us.”

Doku and Savinho could be granted a further opportunity to express themselves in attack for Manchester City this weekend, with Ipswich Town being the club’s next opponents on matchday two of the Premier League season at the Etihad Stadium.

A decision on whether to play the Brazilian will likely depend on his fitness however, having been withdrawn from action against Chelsea at the half-time interval following a disturbance in his knee during the first-half.

Manager Pep Guardiola was keen to insist that the injury, that saw Phil Foden come on in his place, was not serious and that Savinho would not be considered as a player to be ruled out of action for a prolonged period of time.
