Manchester United are expected to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the signature of Viktor Gyokeres, as per reports.

Ruben Amorim’s appointment has generated plenty of excitement among the United fanbase, who are hoping to see an immediate resurgence in their form following the Portuguese tactician’s arrival.

However, his exit, in all likelihood, has left Sporting CP fans worried, not least due to plenty of reports linking their stars to United. In that regard, Gyokeres has been the most heavily tipped Sporting player to follow Amorim’s footsteps.

The soon to be former Sporting boss has downplayed the suggestions, but earlier this week Record (via Sport Witness) claimed United are “assured to make an approach” for their talisman.

The 26-year-old, who has scored 23 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions, has emerged as one of the most prolific forwards in Europe under Amorim’s tutelage.

His hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday night further intensified hype surrounding his goal-scoring prowess.

The incredible form has seemingly also sparked interest from PSG.

As per L’Equipe, PSG advisor Luis Campos has identified Gyokeres as one of the two main targets for next summer. The French newspaper also mentions United as his suitors.

The Parisians are expected to lock horns with United and other clubs for the Sporting man, who reportedly has a €100m clause in his contract, which is due to expire in 2028.

However, The Peoples Person recently relayed a report suggesting Sporting could potentially let him go for €24 million less.

Between United and PSG, the former appear to be in a pole position in the race for Gyokeres as Luis Enrique is not fully convinced about the Ligue 1 outfit spending a big fee on the former Coventry City man.

Meanwhile, it is suggested Amorim “would be key” for the Mancunians in their bid to sign the sensational striker. Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s performances in the early days of his tenure might also have a big say in the Gyokeres transfer saga.
