There has been a third withdrawal from the France squad. Wesley Fofana was the first to pull out. The Chelsea defender’s withdrawal is linked to last season’s injury and, not wanting to overload the centre-back, the decision was made that he would remain with his club. He was replaced by Loïc Badé of Sevilla. Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy then withdrew and has been replaced by Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne.
Mendy’s teammate at club level, Aurélien Tchouaméni has now also been forced to withdraw from the France squad through injury. As confirmed by the FFF, the former AS Monaco midfielder is suffering from an injury to his left foot. Few details have been provided, but the FFF stated that the injury would prevent him taking any part in Les Bleus’ upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Belgium and Italy.
In his place, Lazio’s Mattéo Guendouzi has been called up. He was last called up in March 2024 but missed out on the Euros squad. Guendouzi has eight caps and one goal for the France national team.
