Moment of the Week

Manchester City left it late to preserve their 47-game unbeaten run at the Etihad, as John Stones snatched the home side a precious point against Arsenal. Pep Guardiola’s team were heading towards a frustrating defeat to their title rivals, as a 10-man Arsenal side defended valiantly following Leandro Trossard’s first-half red card.

Arsenal looked set to earn a statement win, until substitute Stones scrambled in a 98th-minute equaliser to earn the Citizens a share of the points. After last season’s title race was decided by the narrowest of margins, just how big a goal could that prove to be?

Stones has previous in title-deciding moments on the big occasion, with his remarkable goal-line clearance against Liverpool ultimately the difference between City and the Reds during the 2018/19 campaign.

Player of the Week

Nicolas Jackson’s start to the season has gone a long way to silencing his Chelsea critics. The Senegalese striker spent the summer watching Chelsea being linked with umpteen centre-forwards but has sent a statement to those questioning his place in the side.

Jackson moved to four goals in five appearances in the Premier League this season with a well-taken brace at West Ham, opening the scoring inside three minutes on his 50th appearance for the Blues. He had a second soon after, racing onto Moises Caicedo’s through ball to prod a calm finish past Alphonse Areola.

It’s now 20 goals in 50 appearances for the West Londoners, while Jackson has now recorded more open-play Premier League goals than Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Cole Palmer since the start of last season.

Goal of the Week

Whenever watching Darwin Nunez in action, there’s likely to be a gasp-inducing moment. It’s not always how the Liverpool fans would like, but the Uruguayan is box-office entertainment.

This weekend, Nunez provided a reminder of why the Reds have been prepared to be patient with him. An excellent link-up with Mohamed Salah was followed by a fabulous finish, struck into the far corner off his weaker side.

Save of the Week

It’s been a week of memorable double-stops. Fresh from David Raya’s rescue act of Arsenal in midweek, Andre Onana produced his own version to earn Manchester United a point at Crystal Palace.

Erik ten Hag’s team had dominated the contest in South London but required Onana to bail them out after the break. After getting down sharply to save from Eddie Nketiah, the Cameroonian sprang back into action to thwart Ismaïla Sarr. Cat-like reflexes.

Stat of the Week

This was not the record-breaking afternoon Kai Havertz would have envisaged on Sunday…

Meanwhile, the Premier League’s resident Superb Sub continued to enhance his reputation. Just imagine what Jhon Duran could do if he actually started games for Aston Villa…

Quote of the Week

James Maddison was not in his family’s good books after scoring for Spurs this weekend.

The midfielder was in top form during his side’s 3-1 win over Brentford but risked the wrath of his nearest and dearest for a shirtless celebration after scoring the third.

The crime? Costing his mum precious FPL points.
