Rangers secure almost £1M as Glen Kamara moves to France | OneFootball

We have to offer a word or two on former Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara FINALLY getting his move to France, two years after his switch from Rangers to Ligue 1 Nice fell through.

The Finnish international, 28, had a solid season with Leeds in England’s Championship, finally ending his Rangers hell in the summer of 2023. He no longer wanted to be at Ibrox, and he’d wanted his exit at the same time as pals Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey.

It didn’t happen, as the move to France collapsed.

One year later after a poor final season in Govan he got a £4M switch to Elland Road, and was determined to use that to get either Premier League via promotion, or to get a move to a top 5 league via transfer.

Finally, he’s got that, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano announcing the €10M deal was near completion to Rennes, the midfielder finally getting the move to a top 5 league where he can showcase his true quality.

Kamara has been waiting on this move for years – he’s wanted either the Premier League or a top five league, and finally he gets that to midtable Rennes, and will hope to finally showcase his potential, his talent, and realise the footballer that everyone said he was and is.

Of course there’s a Rangers angle – Rangers installed a 10% sell-on clause, meaning we bag around £800,000 from this sale, meaning Kamara has now earned us around £5M, which is decent.

While his Rangers career became ignominious after Kudela, overall Rangers did not bad from a player who cost us £50,000.

We don’t think he’s a bad soul by any manner of means, but he really was desperate to move on from Rangers and take his career to the next stage, and he could have handled himself better during all that.

But what’s done is done – it’s better for Rangers that Kamara shone at Leeds and now does likewise in France.

We want our ex-players to thrive, because it encourages future signings to come to our club as well.

Too few do, so we’re glad Kamara has.
