Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed that the AC Milan directors gave thought fairly recently to hiring Maurizio Sarri, but the idea has vanished for now.
Fonseca’s position has come under scrutiny once again, following the defeat to Atalanta and the outburst against his team after the win over Red Star. There have been debates about which manager could replace him, based on old links and new developments.
Milan have reiterated their faith in the Portuguese for the time being and currently have no intention of parting ways with him despite how strong he has been. That being said, Sarri is a name that continues to float in the Rossoneri’s orbit as a potential idea if things take a further turn.
Speaking to Sportitalia, Pedullà commented on yesterday’s statements by Fonseca, who had some very honest and harsh words for his players after the match against Red Star.
“For me, these are statements from someone who is no longer with us. It’s war. The fact that the players were not in tune with Fonseca was already clear from the incident in Rome against Lazio, which for me was very serious because it confirmed that there was no common intent,” he said (via MilanNews).
“Here it seems to me like the intervention of a journalist or a commentator. He should have said certain things to the club, he should call Furlani and Ibrahimovic and tell them these things.
“Milan have always defended him, but there was a moment not so long ago when they thought about Sarri, but then this idea didn’t go ahead even though there had been contacts that Milan will clearly deny. The Rossoneri have always denied certain rumours.”
