Manchester United’s right-wing woes last season were an open secret with off-field controversies dogging all their star wingers.

Erik ten Hag had a huge spat with Jadon Sancho early on in the campaign which meant the Englishman was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund in January.

Big-money recruit Antony looked like a player who would struggle in League One and managed only two goals all season. A domestic violence case registered against him did not help matters.

Alejandro Garnacho had to step up and play in an unfamiliar role and he did a great job but a long-term solution could be targeted by INEOS this window.

RW could be targeted

AS have reported that the Red Devils are eyeing a stunning summer swoop for Viktor Tsygankov of Girona, who enjoyed a stunning debut season in La Liga.

The Ukraine international netted eight times and registered seven assists and his left-footed profile makes him an attractive proposition for quite a few English teams including Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Michel, Girona’s boss, is desperate to not lose the 26-year-old and asked the club to tie him down on a longer deal and to increase his release clause which currently stands at a meagre €30 million.

The right-winger is currently on holiday after his exploits in Euro 2024 but the Spanish outlet claimed that Ten Hag had spoken to the attacker to convince him to join his Old Trafford revolution.

“Tsygankov is on the radar of Europe’s biggest clubs, but Girona are apparently calm. The player has told them that he is happy at the club and, in addition, has a contract until 2027. The ‘problem is that his release clause, of only 30 million euros, would not be a great barrier to prevent Premier League teams from signing him.

“At the moment, none of these clubs have made a formal offer for Tsygankov, but they have contacted his entourage and agent to tell them that they will go for him shortly. Both Manchester United and Aston Villa are drawing up their plans to try to convince the player and thus be able to negotiate a deal with Girona.

Tsygankov interest

“The managers of both English clubs, Ten Hag and Emery, have told Tsygankov that they want to count on him. It is clear that the interest received has been accompanied by a financial offer, although Tsygankov is not in the mood to make an immediate decision given that he is on holiday and his mind, at the moment, is solely on Girona.”

Whether the interest from big English clubs will work to change the Ukraine international’s mind remains to be seen. The prospect of playing in the Premier League is usually too good to let slip for many a player.

Girona will try and increase his release clause and offer him a wage increase but English teams can easily pay more. The ball seems to be in the former Dynamo Kyiv star’s court.

Tsygankov can also play on the opposite flank and as a No 10 if needed, which will please Ten Hag who values versatility. Whether INEOS will take the risk on someone who has no experience of playing in England remains to be seen.
